Waring Senior Wins First Place Speaker in Public Forum Debate

Waring Debate traveled to Newton South High School on Saturday, January 7 for competition in Public Forum debate. Despite the weather forecast, 79 teams (157 debaters) attended the competition. At the end of the four rounds of debate, Waring senior Tristan Horan was first place speaker! He was followed by Waring Juniors Sascha Denby in tenth and Alice Sullivan at eleventh.

The team of Jack Kelly & Sam Lincoln had a 3W-1L record, and Sasha Malley & Alice Sullivan brought their year's record to 13W-1L with a 3W-1L record. Also participating were Stefan Karlberg & Autumn Buhl; Griffin Wells, Ingraham Melvin & Tucker Smith; Henry Younger & Caitlin Bachner; Jackson Tham & Gareth Buhl; Julia Lewis & Clara Wang; and Tristan Horan & Sascha Denby.

The debate team will be traveling to Lexington High School this Saturday and Sunday to compete in a national qualifying tournament. Participants include Jack Kelly, Julia Lewis & Alexandra Kenney, Madeline Boyd & Lillian Corcoran, Arion Carraher-Kang & Jemma West. In addition, Anand Fedele will serve as a Senator in our national Congressional Debate qualifier.
