ABOUT WARING SCHOOL

Waring School is a liberal arts school for students in grades 6-12.

The Waring community values risk-taking and originality of thought, and we insist that all members of our community contribute to an atmosphere of respect. Waring faculty and staff are friends and mentors.

FOUNDED IN 1972

Waring School was founded as a community approach to schooling in 1972 by Philip and Josée Waring.

The Waring campus is situated on 32 beautiful acres in Beverly, Massachusetts. Students at Waring are held to high academic standards with the belief that rigorous study, self-motivation, and high expectations culminate in strong, well-rounded students with a sense of responsibility towards the past, present, and future of their community and the world. We strive to maintain a culture that honors and supports the human desire to learn. Stewardship of our school and the environment, service to the greater community, exposure to the arts and languages, and strong cultural connections are the backbone of our academic life.

Waring continues to set itself apart by a commitment to valuing not just high academic standards, but also risk-taking, self-discovery, and respect.

Limits create challenges, challenges beget creativity, creativity bestows gifts both unpredictable and limitless. These gifts are not always objects or ideas or connections to keep, but they move us forward, propel us towards the next – possibly wondrous – thing.

KB Breiseth, Faculty

It's hard to pick just one favorite Waring experience! A couple favorites include: being a writing TA for 6th and 7th grade students. Helping lead a Shakespeare endterm in which we put on a performance of Much Ado About Nothing. Learning that I actually WAS a science person when taking junior year physics. Discovering my love of both admiring and creating visual art in my Waring art classes and endterms throughout the years.
