On Friday, March 14, Waring students continued to strengthen bonds with their French correspondents as they accompanied them to classes covering history, philosophy, and math at St. Charles Lycée in Orléans. After their classes, our wonderful Senior TAs took the lead: Amelia instructed students in mathematics, and Caitlyn drew inspiration from Plato and led students in writing ekphrastic poems as they visited the Musée de Beaux Arts this afternoon. As the students wandered the halls of the museum, they inevitably drew inspiration from the many works inspired by Joan of Arc, a defender of the French nation known for her role in the Siege of Orléans.
The visit to the Musée de Beaux Arts concluded Waring’s first of three weeks in France (but not before giving everyone some free time to roam the centreville and enjoy a café and French pastry!)
Below, you will see images (and a few sketches — more to come) from the students’ experiences over the last few days, including: a visit to the Orléans Médiatèque (4 floors of books, magazines, newspapers, film and records), work with their TAs in the classroom, a trip on the Orléans Tramway, and excursions in the city.
