Dan Murphy

Humanities Teacher, Writing Teacher

Dan teaches Humanities and Writing at Waring. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Boston University, where he taught electives in creative writing for several years. He served as Writer-in-Residence at Phillips Academy from 2019-2020. An active writer, his poems and prose have been published in national and international journals, and he’s received several honors and awards for his work. Winner of the 2024 Agha Shahid Ali Prize in poetry, his debut collection, Estate Sale, was published by the University of Utah Press in June 2025.
Dan believes that all students are innately creative and have something meaningful to say. He loves guiding them to find the voice and form for their written expression.
