Oceans & Climate, Long-term Substitute
Austin brings a strong earth, environmental, and life sciences background to his teaching, along with a genuine passion for hands-on science education. He holds a BS in Geology from the University of St. Andrews, where his senior thesis took him on a five-week fieldwork expedition to study igneous petrology in Southern Greenland, and a second MS in Geophysical Hazards from University College of London, focused on remote sensing of volcanic emissions. He brings prior teaching experience from a summer as a Resident Teaching Fellow in Environmental Sciences at The Hotchkiss School, as well as several years as an Activity Head and Cabin Counselor at Camp Agawam in Maine. Outside the classroom, Austin is a musician (guitar, live performance, and production), an avid outdoorsman who hikes, camps, skis, and rock climbs, and an enthusiastic cook, photographer, and traveler.
