Partial Immersion

Our program is conducted in French from the first day. Beginners enter a classroom where French is spoken, but not written. Only after a semester of oral French do we introduce writing and reading. French classes are always centered on French conversation. In addition to the four periods per week of French instruction, 6th and 7th graders have an additional four periods per week of immersion classes. They study Humanities and Music in French. These classes act as a complement to the classes they take in English. They are activity based so that students understand French in the context of hands-on activities. In Music they dance, sing and compose. In Humanities they study geography and cultural traditions of Africa, India and China. This program gives them an initial boost in their study of French, and helps them move ahead rapidly in our program.
