On Saturday, April 23, twenty students, parents, and teachers from Waring School gathered for their second community volunteer day with The Food Project of Lynn, MA. Waring’s group worked for 3 hours in The Food Project's Beverly greenhouse on the Glen Urquhart campus to help start the organization's summer gardens, which will provide produce for community-supported agriculture and farmer's markets in the area.
By the end of the morning, the Waring group had seeded 432 cucumbers and 3,200 spinach seeds; potted 936 eggplant, 288 thyme plants, and 200 Cosmos flowers; and thinned other vegetable plants in the greenhouse. The Food Project is nationally recognized for engaging young people in personal and social change through sustainable agriculture.
