Possible ArtWorks Majors

THEATER: Be part of a theater company, learning theater skills and stagecraft. Put on a play at the end.

MUSIC THEATER: Start spreading the news! ArtWorks continues its Broadway success. The hills will be alive with the sound of music as we prepare and perform a great Broadway musical. Join in and see why ArtWorks and music theater go together like rama-lama-lama da-dinga-da ding-a-dong. (There will be an extra $25 fee for scripts, due with final payment.)

VISUAL ARTS: Try all sorts of media: painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, mask-making. Work on your own and on group projects such as murals and sets for the theater production. Visual Arts Majors are known for their wonderful exhibitions at the end of camp.

VIDEO: Be part of a video team that writes, acts in, films, and edits our own series of video pieces. Prior video experience is not necessary but will be helpful. Limited enrollment.

ARTWORKS JUNIOR: A half-day program from 9 a.m. to noon for younger children ages 5-7. We will explore, create, and have fun doing many of the Artworks "older kid" activities. See enclosed description or ask Jim for more information at jwatras@gmail.com.

Magic: Learn the art and skill of being a magician, from elementary palming techniques to more advanced tricks. Learn stage magic and also close up magic. In the past, magic majors have done a presentation at the end, either as part of the Theater production or on their own. For beginners or for those who have had some prior magic training. Additional fee for supplies.

Writing: Learn basic or more advanced writing techniques: plot, character, setting, free writing. Be part of group writing games to get your creativity flowing. Share your work with other members of the group and learn how to improve your writing through revision and editing. At the end there will be a group reading and a publication. For all levels.

Recreation: Each day there are two rec. periods: one after lunch, the other after electives. Recreation choices are “loud” or “quiet”, And when it is very hot, we add “wet.”

Electives: Children choose two electives for the duration of ArtWorks. Previous offerings have included: strategy games, hip-hop, sports, chess, writing, sculpture, improvisational theater, and French. Exact choices will be announced in early May.
